DUE: Chapter 12 Taxing & Spending Blog: Does your CP rely on money or services provided by any other entity (public or private)? Are the money or services provided in a consistent and reliable manner or is the CP subject to periodic application, approval, re-application, etc.? How does this consistency, or lack thereof, affect your CP’s operations? Do other people or organizations rely on your CP to provide funding? The Community Partner that I am working with rely's to get money from donations. Donors go to school sites and see the job we are doing and from there they donate money into the program. Many times donors also volunteer and work hands on in the classroom to get to know the kids and the program a little more. Thankfully every donor that has visited a school site has donated money. I am sure that there probably has been times that donors did not want to donate but, for the most part everyone donates. This could be a risk factor because there could be a time the Bo...

We have received many big donatation from people which have helped with the coverage of supplies, curriculum teachers, wages for employees, and more. Summer school is also ran by BGCP in certain sites and a lot of money is invested into that. The money that is spent is all for the kids, to make the childs education easier for them. Boy and Girls Club has an event every year called Youth of the Year and they close a high school students who had a rough lifestyles to be able to sign up for a scholarship nomination. For this weeks class we spoke about the types of government we have; that is either a strong mayor councilor, weak mayor councilor, and the public authority. My community engagements partner is located in East Palo Alto a small town with most of its residence being black's and hispanic. This is a small town so everyone basically knows each other. EPA is not that big there is only about 2 big shopping centers. East Palo Alto has a mayor, she is Lisa Gauthier and has been mayor since 2012.  EPA has three important council members they are, Ruben Arbica, Larry Moody, Carlos Romero, and Regina Wallace. With the help of all there people they keep EPAa safe living space for its residence. EPA is a location has a bad reputation from its past but over the years it has changed, and is still changing to modernize.

Blog: How are California’s State Legislature and/or local governments using their power to preserve state and local values in the face of conflicting Federal policies? "Legislators engage in three principal functions: Policymaking, representation, and overnight.. the twenty-first century found legislator debating such issues as a budget shortfalls, health care, higher education, and alternative energy sources" (119). This chapter focuses on the issues that a legislator deals with and the role of being a legislative leader. A legislative is a place where law are discussed and taken into account to make the state better and improved. As stated in the chapter, some of the issues that are discussed are bettering schools. This issue ties back to my volunteer work at the Boys and Girls Club because I am working with children. I am so working in a community that is located in a low income community and could use some government help to improve their education skills and schools...

Chapter 3 starts off by addressing the growth of the executive power over the years. In the 1800's there were many problems to face, like the "population growth, and Industrial Revolution; the growing amount of legislation that favored private interest; and a mounting load of state indeptness"(51). Which is why the executive branch begin to accumulate more power during that time. But focusing on our present time today, their are some side affects to many old Constitutions. According to Ann O'M. Bowman many states that have very old constitutions seem to have trouble understanding them. This is do to the old language that is no longer spoken, and the misunderstanding of some words. The constitutions need to be translated into modern language for people to understand. Also these constitutions are made for people living at the time that the constitution was publish not now. This problems we have no are not the problems that citizens had back than. Apart from the constitu...

For this weeks chapter we are reading about Politics, Parties, and Campaigns. This chapter speaks deeply about the 2 important political groups which are Republican and Democratic. The two are described in Page 94, " The Republicans typically have been considered the party of the big business, the Democrats the party of the workers." I don't know how I feel about this description in the book, although it may be very true. The book states that, "Republicans tend to be more conservative, favoring   a limited role of government; Democrats tend to be more liberal, preferring a more activist government". These two groups work very hard during campaigns to try to get a representative to run for the presidency. Once elections are made one of two people are chosen to be the Presidents. On Figure 5.1 you can see the over the years the Republican Party has more older people who vote for them. Which is why this makes sense, the Republicans have more older people on their s...

For starters I would like recognize the fact that over the years the interest in politics has increased. I feel like back in time not many people cared about the presidency or elections. Or in some cases people were not allowed to vote. In the past, " restrictions based on property ownership and wealth, woman, blacks, and native americans were denied the right to vote" (72); only white male were allowed to vote. But, over time with the help of the increase in technology we are more aware of what is happening around us, that now we are interested in the world we are living in. Apart from technology, social media, and influencers such as celebrities and artist they have put their voice to use and expressed how they politically feel into their songs, talent, and more. This has taken a big influence in peoples political decision, but in overall people are more concern about voting, and issues in society today. Now and days, when their is a poll, everyone is encouraged to vote and...
